About The Council of 100

what is this all about?

This project is based on the Court of 100.

In the English Renaissance period a manorial system of government was wildly popular. The Court of 100 was 100 elders and people chosen from the village or "Manor" controlled by the Lord of the Manor. He answered to the King and with his officers ran the manor so that it offered protection and benefits to the citizenry.

I have adapted this model into a business proposition that fits a serious need in our struggling economic times.

With the Company "Co100" in the role of King, Me as the Lord of the Manor, Elected officers to manage things as the officers and the court of 100 will be the 100 invested shares in the business.

I think that many people are like me and are not only worried about retirement but have always wanted a little house in a Renaissance village. Some people are members of Living History or community groups that could use a meeting hall. A few of you have always thought that if they were running the fair they would do things differently. Well this is a chance for all of you!

I think a public campground with the right "draw" or attraction, can make enough of a profit to not only pay off the land but give us all a little extra something in the long run.

Strength in numbers

The Council is made up of 100 like minded people who want to further the education of the renaissance arts and gain some security for their future. By spreading the bills out and gathering the resources from 100 people we make the project easier to fund and less expensive to complete.

The Goal

  • To buy land and operate a public campground for profit.
  • To give all Council members their own piece of land.
  • To build a Living History Village.
  • To build a Community run by the Manorial system.

Buying In

The $1000 buy in is what the company uses to make the down payment on the land and build the roads and bath houses. Everyone has to buy in at least 1 share to be a verified Council of 100 member.

Monthly Maintenance Fee

While the mortgage is being paid off the monthly cost to keep the property operating should be around $1500 to $2000 a month. Divided between the 100 shares this would be $15 to $20 a month per share. Of course this does not come into affect until the property is actually purchased so until that time there are no monthly fees or dues.

We own the land!

After the land is paid off the monthly maint. fee would of course go down. Straight operating costs could vary depending on staffing and events but when the land gets paid off all our bills go down and keeping the land running would probably cost $7 or $8 a month each. This is if the campground is making us no money at all.

Profit Sharing

Just like the bills everyone gets an equal share of any profits realized by the Co100. If we make a profit, everyone gets a check!

Council of Elders

Like the Board of Directors they oversee the normal operations of the business, as regular meetings with 100 people or more would be prohibitive. The CoE is elected by the Co100 every 2 years at a special Leet court.

The Council of 100

Are the people owning the 100 shares of the company bought for $1000 each. Each share gets one vote at Leet court and gets 1 plot of land.

No single person or group/ household may own more than 5 shares or cause more than 5 shares to become assembled into a voting block. We want this to always be run by as vast a majority of the members as possible.

Inside the Village

Everything that passes the gate must at least appear to be conceivably period.
We are trying to recreate life in a renaissance village. Some Co100 members may choose to claim an RV spot or a lot away from everyone and not have space inside the village. Some may buy 2 shares so they can have both an RV spot and a building in the village. There is a place for everyone here.

Educational Opportunities

The primary goals of the village are to attract campers to the campgrounds and educate people about the renaissance arts. Officers are elected specifically to work with the community to offer tours and demonstrations.

Period Camping

The Co100 property will offer camping in a period style just outside the village border but inside the Fief walls. This is a great way to experience an entirely different lifestyle most people only get to dream about. Mundane camping is available in the public campground.

Retirement

Most of America is worried. The economy has tanked and peoples retirement funds have evaporated. This project will offer a lot of good people the security of knowing that no matter what happens they have a place to go, a community of like minded people to be with. A place to call home.
